Frequently asked questions

What is Bayside Academy's approach to homeschooling?

At Bayside Academy, we believe that homeschooling provides a unique opportunity for personalized learning tailored to each student's needs. Our program offers support to families who wish to homeschool but may require guidance or additional resources. We provide a flexible curriculum and a supportive community, allowing parents to be actively involved in their child's education while also benefiting from professional guidance and resources.

What curriculums does Bayside Academy offer?

We offer a diverse range of curricula to accommodate different learning styles and educational goals. Families can choose from our curated list of established programs, such as Miacademy, IXL, and Time4Learning, or bring their own curriculum. Our educators work closely with parents to ensure that the chosen curriculum aligns with each student's learning objectives and interests, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

How do the in-person, virtual, and hybrid models work?

Bayside Academy offers a flexible learning environment through our in-person, virtual, and hybrid models.

  • Hybrid Model: This model allows students to combine in-person and virtual learning, offering the flexibility to switch between the two based on their needs and schedules.

  • In-Person Learning: Students attend classes on campus, where they have access to individualized workstations and direct interaction with educators.

  • Virtual Learning: Students can attend classes remotely, participating in live sessions and accessing digital resources through our online platform.

What is the Socratic method, and how is it used in the classroom?

The Socratic method is a form of teaching that encourages critical thinking and dialogue through asking and answering questions. At Bayside Academy, we utilize this method to engage students in deeper learning. Rather than simply providing answers, our educators guide students to explore ideas, develop their reasoning skills, and articulate their thoughts. This approach helps students become active participants in their learning journey, fostering independence and intellectual growth.

Can Bayside Academy support students who are twice-exceptional?

Absolutely. We are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment for all students. Our team is experienced in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans to support students with diverse learning needs. We work closely with families to develop personalized strategies that help each student succeed academically and socially.

How does Bayside Academy personalize education for each student?

Personalized education is at the core of Bayside Academy's philosophy. We recognize that every student has unique strengths, interests, and learning styles. Our approach involves tailoring instruction and learning activities to meet individual needs. We provide a variety of learning pathways, including personalized lesson plans, project-based learning opportunities, and adaptive learning technologies to ensure that each student can thrive.

What kind of extracurricular activities are available?

Bayside Academy offers a range of extracurricular activities to complement our academic programs. These include art, music, drama, and technology clubs, as well as sports and fitness programs. We encourage students to explore their interests and develop new skills outside the classroom, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

How do you assess student progress?

We use a comprehensive approach to assess student progress, including formative and summative assessments, project evaluations, and ongoing feedback. Our goal is to provide a clear picture of each student's growth and development. We also involve students in the assessment process, encouraging self-reflection and goal-setting to help them take ownership of their learning journey.

What is the role of parents in the educational process at Bayside Academy?

Parents play a vital role in our educational community. We encourage active parent involvement and collaboration in their child's learning process. Whether through regular communication with educators, participation in school events, or contributing to the curriculum development process, we value the partnership between parents and our academy in supporting each student's success.

What if my family has vacation plans?

One of the benefits of homeschooling your child is being able to travel throughout the year. We do not have an attendance policy, therefore, you maintain this freedom. If your child is an in-person student, we can easily switch them to our virtual platform.
